The Constitution
- DESIGNATION
The Association shall be known as the THOMIAN CLASS OF 87'.
- OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Association shall be :
- To promote fellowship among Members and their families :
- To assist in the Welfare of Members and to promote the continuity of the Association; and
- To assist S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia, its allied institutions and any persons associated with it.
- PATRON
The Warden of S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia and in his absence the Acting Warden or the Sub Warden shall be the Patron of the Association
- MEMBERSHIP
All old boys of S.Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia, who joined the College in 1975 and any old boy who subsequently joined this batch of students at the College shall be eligible for Membership of the Association.
- MEETINGS
- The Annual General Meeting of the Association shall be held in February or March each year unless the Executive Committee shall, due to exceptional circumstances, decide to conduct such Meeting on a later date.
- The Secretary shall, with the concurrence of the Executive Committee, prepare a written Agenda for the Annual General Meeting which shall be distributed prior to such Meeting together with copies of Resolutions, if any, to be proposed at such meeting
- The Secretary shall give at least 30 days notice of the Annual General Meeting to the Members of the Association.
- The quorum of the Annual General Meeting shall be a minimum of 10 Members.
- Notice of any Resolution or other matter to be brought before the Annual General Meeting shall be submitted in writing to the Secretary at least 15 days before the date of such Meeting.
- Executive Committee of the Association shall meet at least thrice in each calendar year.
- The Association shall meet at least twice during each calendar year for the benefit of organization and its members.
- Any member may, in writing, for reasons set out therein, request the Secretary of the Association to summon an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Association. Such request shall be signed by at least 10 members of the Association. The Secretary shall give at least 15 days notice of the said Extraordinary General Meeting to the members of the Association.
- The Secretary shall record the proceedings of all Meetings in a Minute Book.
- EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

- The Treasurer
- The Assistant Secretary
- The Assistant Treasurer
- The Immediate Past President
- There shall be an Executive Committee consisting of the Office Bearers and at least three Committee Members.
- The Executive Committee shall be elected each year at the Annual General Meeting.
- Any Member may propose or second, at the Annual General Meeting, the name of any other Member to be President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Secretary, Assistant Treasurer or an Executive Committee Member. Any Member desiring to so propose the name of any other Member shall be give appropriate notice to the Secretary at least 15 days before the Annual General Meeting. Such notice shall contain the names and signatures of the proposer and seconder and the written consent of the Member so proposed and seconded to stand for election.
- It shall be the duty of the Secretary to determine the procedure to be adopted for the disposal of business at both the Annual General Meeting and Ordinary Meetings of the Association, including the procedure for the election of the Executive Committee and the method of voting on any Resolution
- Office Bearers
- FINANCE
- The funds of the Association shall be deposited in a Bank to be decided upon by the Executive Committee, in an account in the name of the association. Such account may be operated under the joint signatures of the Treasurer or President as one signatory and the other signatory to be The Assistant Treasurer or The Secretary or the Vice President.
- The Treasurer shall keep an account of the income and the expenditure of the association and shall present a Statement of Accounts in respect of the preceding financial year, at the Annual General Meeting of the Association.
- The Statement of Accounts of the Association shall be audited by a Qualified Person and circulated among the members of the Association.
- The financial year of the Association shall be each calendar year and the accounts shall be prepared from 1st January to 31st December each year. The Audited Statement of Accounts shall be presented to the membership and adopted at the Annual General Meeting.
- AMMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION
Any amendment to the Constitution may be made by Resolution at an Annual General Meeting of the Association provided that at least 15 days notice of such resolution is given to the Secretary prior to such Meeting and that at least two thirds of the members present at such Meeting vote in favour of the amendment.
- GENERAL
- The Executive Committee shall have the power to determine any matter not dealt with in this Constitution
- The Executive Committee shall have the power to fill any vacancies which may occur in the Executive Committee pending the holding of the next Annual General Meeting
- The Executive Committee shall have the power when they consider that the highest interest of the Association so requires to take any steps necessary to ensure the continued existence and proper functioning of the Association.
